Your aftercare guide

The below queries and videos include how to care for your aligners, diet recommendations, and what to do in specific situations during your treatment journey.
  • What foods should I avoid while wearing SureSmile® aligners?

It's best to remove your aligners while eating or drinking anything other than water to avoid staining or damaging them. Sticky, hard, or chewy foods may also damage your teeth or aligners if not removed. Always brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in.

  • Can I drink tea, coffee or alcohol with my aligners in?

You should remove your aligners before drinking tea, coffee, alcohol, or any sugary or acidic beverages. These can stain the aligners and increase the risk of tooth decay. Always brush your teeth after consuming these drinks before putting your aligners back in.

  • How should I clean my aligners?

Clean your aligners daily using a soft toothbrush and clear, unscented soap. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the aligners. You can also use specialised aligner cleaning products for a more thorough clean.

  • What is IPR and why is it part of my treatment?

IPR (Interproximal Reduction) is a simple procedure where we slightly reduce the width of certain teeth to create more space for alignment. This allows for smoother movement and helps achieve optimal results. The process is painless and minimally invasive.

  • What should I do if I lose or break an aligner?

If you lose or break an aligner, contact us as soon as possible. In the meantime, wear your previous aligner to maintain your progress. We’ll guide you on the next steps, which may involve ordering a replacement aligner or advancing to the next one in your treatment plan.

  • How long should I wear my aligners each day?

To achieve the best results, wear your aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day. Only remove them for eating, drinking (anything but water), brushing, or flossing.

  • How do I know when to switch to the next set of aligners?

We’ll provide you with a treatment schedule, which will typically involve switching to a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks. Follow our guidance, and be sure to attend check-ups so we can monitor your progress.

  • Will wearing aligners affect my speech?

You may notice a slight change in your speech, especially when you first start wearing the aligners, but this should improve as you get used to them within a few days.

  • What should I do once my treatment is complete?

After completing your SureSmile treatment, we will schedule a final assessment to evaluate your results and determine if any additional steps are needed to maintain your new smile. Be sure to follow all post-treatment recommendations to ensure long-lasting results.

  • Can I wear aligners during sports?

Yes, but it’s advisable to remove your aligners if you’re wearing a mouthguard for contact sports. Always store your aligners in their case to avoid loss or damage.
